Oak (Year 1)
Hello and welcome to Year 1!
My name is Miss Hale, and I am the class teacher in Year 1, alongside Miss McAviney. We are all very excited to learn and explore with the children this year. We use a child-led, exploratory approach alongside our knowledge-based curriculum that echoes the pedagogy practiced across key stages 1 and 2.
We have such a fabulous year ahead and I hope that all of the children are looking forward to all of the amazing things that we are going to be learning!
You will find on this class page examples of children's work, guidance and documents to support your understanding of what and how your child is learning in Year one, exciting class news and activities that we get up to!
As always, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with myself if you have any queries about our learning and we will always do our best to help!

THE WRITE STUFF
In Year One, we carry on a programme that runs throughout our school, called the Write Stuff. In our lessons, we immerse ourselves in the plot points of new stories where we have experience days and writing days. We then carry out our own independent writes at the end of each book. We love learning about new characters, new modes of text and various types of writing too. Below is some of the amazing work the children have been completing in our lessons, followed by their independent plan and OWN writing!!!

ART
Wow! What a fantastic start to the new year and term! We have introduced the term by starting with our Art lessons. In Art this term we are looking at Henri Mattise, who is a French abstract artist. The children have enjoyed learning about Henri's background, how he found his passion as an artist, and of course learning about his pieces and techniques. The children have looked at new vocabulary such as: tearing, overlapping, collaging, and scrunching. We have also been focusing on the primary and secondary colours within our pieces. We have loved using Henri's techniques to create our own wonderful masterpieces!

In our afternoon, we have short bursts of mastering number lessons which focuses on maths fluency to help our pace and really understand what makes up our numbers. Here is a look at the amazing book work so far!

We have looked at the changes and similarities of each seasons, the months that they fall under, the appropriate clothes to wear, types of weather in every season and have done a case study all about Autumn. The children have worked so hard and have retained lots of interesting facts about our seasons and have had lots of fun discovering the art of Autumn outdoors.
